Advanced Security
BlackBerry® Enterprise Server features an advanced security system to meet strict requirements for information integrity and confidentiality:
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server requires an outbound-only initiated and authenticated connection through port 3101. Data remains encrypted at all points between the BlackBerry device and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with end-to-end Triple DES or AES encryption.
- IT administrators can define and enforce organization/workgroup wide security policies such as mandatory passwords and password configuration. They can also impose device lock-down or wipe data from lost or stolen devices.
- Optional S/MIME support leverages an organization’s existing S/MIME capabilities.
- All incoming and outgoing wireless data on the device, including email messages, address book entries, calendar entries, memos and tasks are encrypted and decrypted locally, so sensitive enterprise information is always protected.
Multi-Network, Application and Device Support
One BlackBerry® Enterprise Server supports multiple wireless devices, applications and networks globally.
- Supports all BlackBerry® devices, regardless of network technology or service provider.
- Can support a variety of other wireless devices and OSs from participating manufacturers. BlackBerry® Connect and BlackBerry® Built-In technology is supported by HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, as well as Microsoft Windows Mobile, Palm OS, and Symbian OS
- Integrates with the Microsoft Exchange messaging platform, as well as enterprise application servers to wirelessly enable hosted email, CRM, ERP, business intelligence, document management systems and more
- Supports all major wireless wide area networks globally: CDMA2000 1xRTT, DataTAC, GSMT/GPRS, iDENT (Nextel/Mike T) and Mobitex, as well as wireless local area networks (WLANs)
- Runs on the same physical server as Microsoft® Exchange Server v2003, v2007, and v2010 or Windows® Small Business Server 2003 and 2008
Easy-to-Manage Administration
BES provides centralized control of your wireless environment, allowing us to:
- Track and manage key device statistics, including device model, PIN, software version and serial number, as well as monitor loaded 3rd party applications and IT policies applied.
- Specify which applications are required, allowed and prohibited on users’ devices; required applications are pushed to the device and installed wirelessly.
- Enforce customizable corporate-wide and workgroup-specific policies with regard to wireless device software upgrades, making passwords mandatory and defining automatic device backups.
- Send wireless commands to enable or disable BlackBerry® device functionality
- Monitor the BES and many of its components through independent software processes. If a monitored operation fails, these processes will automatically detect faults and restart the appropriate functions.
BlackBerry® Enterprise Server is a scalable platform that can grow with an organization by easily accommodating new users and applications.
Completely Wireless User Experience
BlackBerry® users can enjoy the same email and data experience on the go as they do at their desk:
- Since BlackBerry® devices are designed to remain continuously connected to the wireless network, users don’t have to initiate data exchange and download.
- Two-way wireless synchronization of hosted email and organizer information allows users to enjoy complete wireless synchronization of message status (including read, unread, deletes and folder moves), sent items and filing of messages.
- Wireless provisioning allows users to quickly and securely activate devices wirelessly so they can start using BlackBerry® even faster.
- Users can remotely control settings directly from their device, including managing out-of-office auto-replies, changing email filters and updating auto-signatures.
- Sent items are synchronized between the user’s BlackBerry® device and Microsoft® Outlook. Messages sent from desktop email can also be sent to the device as a sent item.
