Back-to-school season is a reminder that success starts with a strong foundation. In this month's Cyber Bulletin, we cover cybersecurity basics, compliance updates, vendor risk, and real-world breach lessons to help your organization stay informed, prepared, and protected.
What's New
Why Social Media Is a Cybersecurity Issue
Social media accounts can provide cybercriminals with valuable information and access points to impersonate businesses, target employees, scam customers, and launch social engineering attacks.
While CMMC Phase 2 implementation has been delayed, organizations that handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) shouldn't view the pause as a reason to wait.
Windows Server 2016 will reach end of support on January 12, 2027. While that may seem far away, waiting to plan an upgrade can lead to increased costs, resource constraints, and security risks. Start preparing now to ensure a smooth transition before support ends. Ask us how we can help.
As students head back to school and organizations gear up for a busy fall, it's also a time when cybercriminals ramp up their efforts. New devices, new accounts, increased online activity, and back-to-school promotions create more opportunities for phishing scams, account compromise, and data exposure. A few simple precautions can make a significant difference in protecting yourself, your organization, and your student's information:
Use strong, unique passwords for your important accounts.
Be cautious of back-to-school phishing emails, fake deals, and unexpected links.
Keep devices updated with the latest security patches and software updates.
Be mindful of what you share online. Review social media privacy settings and avoid posting sensitive personal information, schedules, or locations publicly.
The beginning of a new school year is a reminder that learning never stops. Whether you're a student, parent, employee, or business leader, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Taking time to refresh the fundamentals and educate yourself, your family, and your team about common threats can help create a safer digital environment throughout the year ahead.

Breach...
What happened?
Unlimited Technology Systems, a healthcare technology provider, experienced a data breach after hackers accessed data stored in one of its commercial data centers. Exposed information may have included Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, diagnoses, insurance details, and identification documents.
When did it happen?
Unauthorized activity was discovered on October 19, 2025. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor accessed data between October 5 and October 10, 2025. The breach was disclosed in 2026 after the scope of the incident was confirmed.
Who was affected?
Approximately 3.8 million individuals were impacted. Most were patients of healthcare providers that use Unlimited Technology Systems' services, meaning they had no direct relationship with the company itself.
Key Takeaway: This incident highlights the growing risk of third-party vendor breaches. Clients trust organizations to safeguard their sensitive data, and that responsibility extends to the vendors that store, process, and manage it. Strong vendor risk management and security oversight are essential, as a single breach can impact both an organization and its customers.
