As we enter the second half of the year, it's an ideal time to evaluate priorities and prepare for what's ahead. This month's Cyber Bulletin explores emerging cyber threats, AI developments, data protection and compliance best practices, and strategic technology insights to help your organization stay secure and productive.
What's New
The Hidden Costs of Doing Nothing: Why Outdated Infrastructure Will Hurt More Than Upgrading
Doing nothing may feel like the safest IT strategy, but delaying upgrades can lead to growing costs, increased security risks, and major disruptions as critical technology deadlines approach.
How Managed Backup Services Simplify Compliance and Data Protection
Managed backup services automate data protection, reduce risk, support compliance requirements, and ensure fast recovery to keep businesses running smoothly when disruptions occur.
As we move into the second half of the year, it's a good time to pause and ask a simple question: Are we doing what we said we would do?
Setting goals is easy. Staying disciplined enough to follow through is where real progress happens. Midyear is a valuable opportunity to take an honest look at what's working, what isn't, and where adjustments need to be made. The most successful organizations don't wait until year-end to evaluate progress. They adapt as they go.
This is especially true when it comes to technology. Whether you're strengthening cybersecurity, modernizing infrastructure, or exploring AI initiatives, it's easy to get caught up in new tools and emerging trends. The bigger question is whether those investments are helping you achieve the business outcomes you set out to accomplish. Regularly revisiting priorities, measuring progress, and making course corrections when needed can help ensure technology remains a driver of growth rather than a distraction.
The second half of the year is where momentum is built or lost. By staying focused, proactive, and willing to adjust when needed, we can all be better prepared for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Security and governance remain key concerns as organizations expand AI usage across their operations
AI Trends To Watch...
Leading AI vendors, including Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google, are rapidly advancing two key areas: reasoning models, which can tackle more complex business tasks and decision-making, and multimodal AI, which allows users to work seamlessly across text, images, audio, documents, and video within a single experience. These innovations are helping move AI beyond simple chatbots and toward more capable digital assistants that can support real business workflows.
Between late May and early June 2026 and was publicly reported on June 30, 2026.
What happened?
An unknown threat actor gained access to the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN), a platform used by federal, state, local, tribal, international, and private-sector partners to share sensitive but unclassified information. According to reports, the attackers targeted HSIN servers and a SharePoint collaboration environment.
Who was affected?
While the full scope of the incident remains under investigation, the number of affected users and the extent of any data exposure have not been disclosed. DHS has stated that affected systems were isolated and that there is currently no indication classified networks were impacted.
How could this have been prevented?
While investigators have not yet identified the root cause, organizations can help reduce the risk of similar incidents by:
Promptly patching and securing internet-facing systems.
Implementing strong access controls and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Monitoring for unusual activity within collaboration platforms such as SharePoint.
Regularly reviewing permissions and access privileges.
Conducting ongoing vulnerability assessments and threat hunting activities.
