House passes a bill that could lead to a TikTok ban if Chinese owner refuses to sell

A majority of the U.S. House of Representatives shared concern over TikTok's ownership as a possible threat to national security. They passed a bill by a vote of 352-65, which could lead to a nationwide ban if TikTok's Beijing-based owner, ByteDance, does not agree to sell.

Stanford University Data Breach Impacts 27,000 Individuals

A ransomware attack on Stanford University allowed hackers to steal over 400 gigabytes of data from their Department of Public Safety (DPS) network from May 12 to September 27, 2023. The University has notified 27,000 individuals that their personal information, including name, birthdate, Social Security number, passport number, and driver's license number, may have been impacted by the breach.

Justice Department Sues Apple for Monopolizing Smartphone Markets

The Justice Department, and 16 additional state and district attorneys general, filed a lawsuit against Apple for maintaining the monopoly on smartphones, causing consumers to pay higher and higher prices and suppressing innovation, functionality, and quality for non-Apple products.

Millions of customers' data found on dark web in latest AT&T data breach

A data breach exposed personal information for millions of AT&T customers, including full names, email addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, and AT&T account numbers and passcodes. The data of current and former customers appears to be from 2019. AT&T is notifying all impacted consumers. The company recommends changing passwords and monitoring account activity and credit reports.

Google to Delete Billions of Browsing Records in 'Incognito Mode' Privacy Lawsuit Settlement

A class action lawsuit filed in 2020 alleged that Google was keeping data records of users' browsing activities when using the "incognito" or "private" mode in the Chrome browser. Google has agreed to a settlement and to delete billions of private browsing data.
