How Phishing Attacks Adapt Quickly to Capitalize on Current Events
There was a 40% increase in phishing attacks on businesses in 2023 compared to 2022. The surge is largely due to the development of generative AI and Phishing as a Service (PhaaS), which has made it easier for threat actors and malicious parties to create and carry out phishing campaigns, often targeting current events.
NIST Releases First 3 Finalized Post-Quantum Encryption Standards
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) approved three Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), designed to withstand attacks from a quantum computer.
New RAMBO attack steals data using RAM in air-gapped computers
Air-gapped systems are isolated from external networks and are typically used in an environment with highly sensitive data. A researcher devised a new attack, called RAMBO, that uses malware on these devices to exploit electromagnetic emissions from the RAM to transit data.
Highline Public Schools closes schools following cyberattack
Highline Public Schools, in Washington, closed September 9, after detecting unauthorized activity on their systems. At the time of the article, the district was working with third-party partners to test and safely restore their systems.
Wix to block Russian users starting September 12
Wix, a website-building platform, stopped providing services to Russian users on September 12, blocking their access and taking their created websites offline. This action comes shortly after the productivity and note-taking app, Notion, made a similar decision and after the US government enforced restrictions on software service providers.
FBI: Reported cryptocurrency losses reached $5.6 billion in 2023
Cryptocurrency fraud increased 45% in 2023 compared to the previous year with over $5.6 billion lost. The reported losses were revolved around investment fraud, tech support scams, call center fraud, and government impersonation.
