Microsoft Blames Massive DDoS Attack for Azure, Outlook, and OneDrive Disruptions
In June, a cluster of cyber attacks caused service outages for Microsoft Azure, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive. Microsoft stated that there is no evidence that customer data was comprised, but the attacks did temporarily impact availability.
Suspected LockBit Ransomware Affiliate Arrested in Arizona
U.S. authorities have made their third arrest in connection with the LockBit ransomware operation. The accused has been charged with organizing and deploying LockBit ransomware on multiple networks from August 2020 to March 2023. This ransomware group has extorted around $91 million and conducted nearly 1,700 attacks.
Over 100,000 ChatGPT accounts stolen via info-stealing malware
Information stealers have stolen more than 100,000 ChatGPT user accounts between June 2022 and May 2023 by using malware to target credentials saved to web browsers. Since ChatGPT stores all conversations, having access to a user's account could mean access to sensitive data, including business strategies, personal information, or software code.
Iowa’s largest school district confirms ransomware attack, data theft
Des Moines Public Schools confirmed a data breach and ransomware attack earlier this year, impacting almost 6,700 people. No ransom has been paid, and the school district is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to affected individuals.
Ransomware groups have been increasing their attacks on school districts and other education organizations over the last couple of years.

FTC: Amazon trapped millions into hard-to-cancel Prime memberships
The FTC claims Amazon used deceptive techniques to trick users into signing up for Prime subscriptions and making it intentionally difficult to navigate the cancellation process.
Amazon has also been charged with privacy violations, resulting in $30 million in fines. The violations include: unlawful surveillance, failing to prevent hackers from gaining control of cameras, and failing to delete voice recordings and geolocation data of children.
