Hackers compromised several popular NPM packages in a large-scale supply chain attack, aiming to steal cryptocurrency through malicious code. Despite the widespread reach, the attackers made very little money before the malware was discovered and removed.
Signal has launched a long-awaited secure cloud backup feature, allowing users to opt-in to safely store and restore their chats and media. Backups are end-to-end encrypted and protected by a 64-character recovery key that only the user can access.
Plex has confirmed a data breach involving unauthorized access to user information, including emails, usernames, hashed passwords, and authentication data. The company is urging all users to reset their passwords and enable two-factor authentication as a precaution. Plex says it has addressed the vulnerability and is reviewing its systems to prevent future incidents.
The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned 19 entities in Southeast Asia linked to cyber scams that defrauded Americans of over $10 billion in 2024. These operations, based in Burma and Cambodia, used forced labor and violence to run large-scale fraud schemes, including fake investment platforms and romance scams. The sanctions aim to disrupt these criminal networks by cutting off their access to the U.S. financial system and international partners.
Disney will pay $10 million to settle FTC allegations that it violated children's privacy laws by mislabeling YouTube videos as not being “Made for Kids." This mislabeling allowed personal data from children under 13 to be collected and used for targeted advertising, breaching the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
